I made this costume for halloween 2011. I didnt get very much time to make it, but I manage to finish it in time, and here it is. Made out of cardboard and a tube of glue. enjoy...

Its begun...

So Ive started working on my degreeproject.

Im studying industrial design in Umeå, Sweden. Its my last year at bachelor and I have evolved from being intermediate to being pro. Most of the sketches and 3d-renderings are mine, so if you look back you can see my progression thought out these past 3 years.

Ill come with a update later on when the project come a bit on its way.

P.S. Im going to work with a new more userfocused crutch sulotion.

simple render

A rendering of an object doesnt have to take an hour. Its better to use the fastest path to achive a result. This one took about 5 minutes, but by then it was good enough and I desided to focus on more important things.

Alot of people think that design is about making something beautiful. And it probably was for a long time. But these days its so much more than that. At school we rarely have any courses in how to sketch or render a picture, I picked up my skills as I went along. I work alot on the research and just barely give any time to making nice renderings. This is because its NOT THAT IMPORTANT. When Im done with my final koncept idea, I dont have to spend alot of time desiding on how its suppose to look, it comes to me along the way and is inspired by the research

The sketching and rendering parts is mostly used for selling the idea. This as well as the graphic layout of the presentation is used as packaging.

back after not being away at all...

Ok, so I havent been gone, but at the same time, I havent had time. While working on my degreeproject, servicedesign-project, portfolio and so on, I havent been able to get onto the blog for a while. but now Im back.

Getting Inspired by other Designers pt.1

On the designsketching site you can find alot of inspirational designers. These are the designers that helped making the books Designsketching and Learningcurves possible. I would recomend to check some of these out if your in to design or just looking at cool pictures.

I often look at what other designers are working on to kinda see where design is going and what inspires me. This one is a design by Christian Grajewski.

photoshop render

Yeah, so I made this picture for fun because I was bored. I probably have alot of more important stuff to do. What is weird, in my opinion, is that when conceptdesigners make their futurevision it tends to look like a worndown world, a post apocalyptic world. It should look "happier"... Anyways, thats just my thought, it doesnt matter. gnite!

This is a sketch I did today, whem comming back to school here in Umeå. Its a crab-like creature.

The crutch o' the future!

So my last year at designschool as a un-educated young man is coming. After this year I will be finished with my bachelor in industrialdesign here in Sweden and I therefore have to make a degreeproject. I want to make this crutchproject Ive been playing around with.

When I broke my foot, I realized that in the crutches I had to buy there were alot of flaws. So here is my Idea. I want to design a crutch-like product that is afordable and that solves all these flaws I found. That would be kool...

Spherical Remote-control?

I made this a while back. I thought that normal tv-controllers had look the same way too long and desided to change that.

I tried out different shapes and sizes to come up with the one your seeing in the picture. I also wanted to have as few buttons and actions as possible. Now its scroll-based and easier to use.

I Transportdesign

People ask me if I want to be a transportdesigner. I think its mostly because I spend alot of time with the transportdesigners at school. To be honest, I havent desided yet in wich field I want to work. Im very interested in being a entrepreneur...

Anyways, my girlfriend wants to use my computer now... Hej då

If you want something done you have to make it happen!

I remember going to Sharm el shak, in Egypt, with my parents when I was 19. during a tour round the city we found this huge building were it said ”virgin” allover it. Until then I only had heard about ”virgin” in a videogame I had when I was a kid. I hadn't realized that it was one of the biggest companies in the world yet. I was amazed at the variation of different stores just one company could have. I later learned that the had alot more than the ones they had in Sharm el shak.
Richard Branson has made a fortune making things happen, not waiting for life to happen but making life happen. After reading his book ”losing my virginity” I understood that buissness opportunities wont allways present itself to you, so rather than wait, you should just make it happen!

HANDY CAPABILITY

I broke my foot a while ago and desided that I didnt like the crutcher I got and started looking for alternative ways to take pressure of the foot while being able to still use my hands.

In Sweden we have a elbow and hand-based crutch that makes it hard to carry things and function proparly in our society.

Americans have a different kind of crutch, they put pressure on the shoulders, but still, it has the same problems as the european onces.

TRIGGER.
The event that got me into this from the begining held place at a bbq by the icy waters of Sweden. I found a tree and ofcourse had to climb it. My friend, who was on solid ground, wanted to give me a beer. So i rushed down, but when I was a bit over 3 or 4 meter over ground, the branches I held onto broke of! First the one below my feet, than the one in hand. In midair I tryed to plan my landing, Either I fall onto the grill. Or Ill do a summersalt into the water. Or roll past the tree, risking hitting my head. I manage to non of the above, my left foot hit a rock, twisted my ancle and a two cm bone broke of wich resulted in my foot to swell to about 4 times its normal size.

IDEA.
So this is my plan. A alternative to the crutch were you can function in the society and abeling you to use your hands. leting the shape blend in to the everyday scenario.

Because this is a alternative, its not suppose to look or be based on the actuall crutch-solution.

latest gaming technology?

Is this really the latest gaming technology? I dont think so, who would bring that into their apartment?

What Ive seen at my school i the exact opposit. Manly handheld devices och just stationary cameras like kinect or wii-remotes are what the students (the future designers) are working on. Its very interesting. "how can we make gaming for active people?" or rather "how to make gamers more active" is the questions that seams to be floating around.

Think about that...

RHINO RENDER 2

The secret to cad is to use rhino... Supersimple program, easy to understand and learningcurve is low as hell!

I used to cad alot in 3ds max, and manage to build all kinds of things. I remember doing my first project after gradeschool in 3ds max. Back then I wanted to be a architect so my project was "How to design and furnish a house". I made the whole house in cad, built all the furniture (including a pool-table and a library). I designed the flow throughout the house. I was very proud. Until my supervisor at the project flunked me!? I got confused and assumed that I must have done something wrong. But to be sure I showed the project to another teacher at school (we were in title to a second oppinion if we felt that the grade was unfair in any way). The teacher was as confused as me and said that Ive should've gotten the highest grade.

In retrospect, I think that she, my supervisor, just didnt understand how much work it goes into a cad-project of that size for a 18 year old.

FUN IN RHINO 1

This was a project I did during my introductionyear to industrialdesign. I made the design about 3 years ago, but this rhino-render was made about 30 minutes ago.

The product is suppose to help in difficult situations that involve your car. The dockingstation sticks to most surfaces and fits smaller spaces. The flashlight is magnetic and fits to the dock that way. It charges the batterie by induction and uses only two small led-lamps to illuminate the problemareas.

Supersmart huh!

TEDtalks inspiration

Yeah, so Ive known about TED for a while now and after just finishing a big project with a even bigger company I really need to, other than sleeping, sit down, relax and just watch some mindless bullshit show on television. But I kind off dont work that way. When I should relax I find work to do, when I should work I find something else to do (watch mindless shows on television).

Anyway, if you dont know what TED is. Its a yearlie seminar were some of the worlds most inspiring people come to present and talk about their ideas.

I just finished watching the most amazing architect firm present their work on TED, Thomas Heatherwick. And now, Id like to share TED with the people who hasnt found the wonderfull world of TED.

ENJOY!

Designprocess, the book

The book... A book on the designprocess and some things to know before you really get into design, it can be interresting to read before you want to become a designer. Maybe if you have questions on some part of the designprocess or if you have stickingpoints that youre having a hard time to get passed, this can be a good book to read.

What if you can get all that for a smaller amount of money...? wouldn't that be amazing. To have a different perspective on design than maybe IDEO or if you like design and like to know more about it, but you dont want to spend big money, like if its only a hobbie. The book follows my experiences and its based on my process at the time. I also cover other peoples experiences and how they work through their process.

Its filled with picture and sketches that will inspire help explain in what way I proceed to be able to be the best designer I can.

Now, the book isnt really done yet, but Its getting their. (this might not be the final bookcover BTW).

(I probably should add that IDEO are to me, probably the best designcompany in the world right now, but as a student in Sweden, I dont really have enough money to buy any of their books at the moment and thats why I wrote the book.)

SKEaTCHES part 2

Ok, so I call this post "Skeatches part 2" because thats what it is.

These are some of my other sketches Ive done. You might see alot of tank and robot pictures, thats because of the latest project Ive been working on. Right now We have a project with the swedish demolition-robot company called "Brokk"... Yeah, I know, it sounds awesome, I think so two. So we're totally on the same page...

And also I must say that this project has been the most fun project Ive ever worked on till this day. But I will save that story for later. because thats how I roll, dawg.

So anyways, as you can see I like working with ballpoint and A3-paper. I sometimes sketch in photoshop with my wacom, but I try doing as much as I can on real paper, feels more genuine that way. Ive work hard to finding my own style in my sketching and at the moment, I feel confident. I would even say that some of my sketches are pretty desent.

"Note 2 self:
- Remember to do a post about the designprocess"

Good, Just ignore the leaning text of post...a (The leaning tower of Pisa)
Haha, aint I the funny one...

Anyways, like doing dividingline to show the shapes and forms of my koncepts. Like adding other shapes and forms to my sketches to display a certain style. For example if I want to mediate a soft shape  with lots of curves and such.

Well it seems to be very late and I seem to be very tired, so I might just go to sleep now... That is if I can, some guy are BBQing right outside my window and making lots of noice. Its in the middle of the night/earlie in the morning. so... Good night

LABORHOOD

I just got my first company registered...
Im looking forward to building the company and hope to find some awesome projects to work on.
We are going to work with design and visualization. its going to be very interesting. and lots of fun.
Im right now working on lots of other things right now so its going to come in on the side, when I have sparetime.

To be continued...

SKEaTCHES (beatches)

So I thought it would be kinda fun posting a couple of sketches Ive done. These are all done by hand and it shows what kind of style I use to present my ideas in a early stage of the process.

This is the best part of the process in my opinion, wich makes it wierd that I dont post more sketches than I actually do.

The top sketch to the left I made on a flight to stockholm and its done with a normal ballpoint on a A6 size pad. This is absolutely my favorite way to sketch and do koncepts, because I can do it wherever I am. (You never know where you will get your next idea)

t-shirt design

Yeah so I fell in the trap of creating a shop for to sell t-shirts.

There is something that makes sketching on whiteboard really fun. someone at school set up this whiteboard to twitter thing a couple of weeks ago and I got inspired to put some of my whiteboard sketches up to.
